What is a Mommy Makeover Surgery?
What is a Mommy Makeover Surgery?

Pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding can take a toll on a woman’s physical figure in many cases. A mother has an opportunity to re-gain her pre-pregnancy figure with cosmetic surgery procedures. If she chooses individual aesthetic procedures, the improvement in the overall appearance may only be quite limited. On the other hand, a mommy makeover surgery can be a good choice for a comprehensive improvement.

A mommy makeover procedure will involve surgical treatment in certain pre-determined areas of the body that require enhancement. The surgery will address multiple issues such as loose skin, excess fat accumulation, and cellulite appearance in one go. Dr. Thomas Fiala is a board certified plastic surgeon providing state of the art procedures such as mommy makeover. Dr. Fiala receives patients from Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL, and surrounding communities.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Any mother who feels the need to reverse or improve the adverse aesthetic impact caused by pregnancy and childbirth may make a good candidate for this procedure. Women who give a natural birth and those who undergo a C-section surgery will make equally good candidates for a mommy makeover cosmetic surgery.

However, the candidate should not have a plan for another pregnancy in the foreseeable future. The surgeon will also consider the overall health of the candidate, previous surgeries if any, and her personal aesthetic goals prior to determining whether mommy makeover is the most appropriate procedure in her case.

The cosmetic surgeon will usually customize the mommy makeover procedure to meet the unique aesthetic needs of a patient. The procedure will usually include two or more of the following surgeries:

Breast Augmentation
• Breast Lift
• Breast Reduction
• Liposuction
• Tummy Tuck
• Body Lift
• Body Contouring
• Cellulite Reduction
• Stretch Mark Removal
• Non-invasive procedures

Breast augmentation or implant surgery is commonly included in a mommy makeover because the mother may experience loss of breast volume following pregnancy or breastfeeding. If the breasts droop significantly, breast lift surgery may be added to the mommy makeover plan. Some women may develop oversized breasts, which may necessitate a breast reduction procedure instead of implants.

Liposuction surgery is one of the common procedures in a mommy makeover. Liposuction can be used to improve body contours in a targeted manner with a less invasive approach. Experienced cosmetic surgeon Dr. Fiala provides mommy makeover and other procedures to patients in Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL, and nearby areas.

Stretch mark and cellulite removal procedures are also commonly performed in a mommy makeover. Non-surgical procedures may sometimes be combined with surgery in order to make the overall procedure relatively less invasive. A detailed treatment plan will be prepared in consultation with the patient, which will accomplish the desired goals in a safe and effective manner.

On average, a patient will take about two to three weeks before they can resume their normal activities. Heavy lifting of weights and strenuous movements should be avoided for about six weeks. The patient should follow the surgeon’s instructions diligently in order to minimize risk during the recovery.

How much does Botox Cost?
How much does Botox Cost?

Botox is one of the most popular anti-aging non-surgical aesthetic treatments for the face. This injectable treatment may be recommended for individuals who wish to avoid cosmetic surgery, but still want to find a solution to minimize facial lines and wrinkles. During the initial consultation, the Botox treatment provider will discuss various aspects of the procedure, including its estimated costs.

Dr. Thomas Fiala is a board certified plastic surgeon providing a wide range of surgical as well as non-surgical procedures, including Botox. Dr. Fiala will address all queries and concerns of the patient during the initial consultation, and help the patient make an informed choice. He receives patients from Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL, and surrounding communities.

Average Cost

At Dr. Fiala’s practice, various facial procedures ranging from facelift cosmetic surgery to Botox non-surgical treatment are offered at competitive prices. Botox treatment, on average, may range from $350 to $500 for each treated area at the practice. Special offers may be available to make the treatment more affordable for patients who are on a budget.

In terms of cost per unit of Botox, the cost at Dr. Fiala’s practice may vary between $15 and $20 per unit. The number of injections that a patient may require will also influence the final cost of Botox treatment. One of the key advantages of receiving Botox injections at Dr. Fiala’s practice is that the treatments are performed under the guidance of experienced and board certified plastic surgeons, including Dr. Fiala himself.

A majority of practices offer Botox treatment at a flat rate cost, and only a few will break down the sticker price by units used per treatment. Flat rates for Botox may range from $300 to $1,000, depending on several factors. The rate per unit is usually around $15 to $20, and a single vial contains 100 units, which will suffice for four to five treatments. The limitation is that the vial must be used within a few hours of opening, and if the entire vial is not consumed, the rest of it may have to be discarded.

Cost Factors

When an individual is considering Botox treatment and making a comparison of prices, they should look at the price in relation to the quality of care and the professional credentials and reputation of the practice providing Botox treatment.

If the price discount offered at some place is abnormally high, it could be indicative of questionable treatment. Therefore, the patient should carefully evaluate the price against quality. Dr. Fiala provides Botox treatment to patients in Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL, and nearby areas.

Insurance and Financing

Botox treatment for cosmetic purposes will generally not be covered by health insurance. However, the patient should consult with their insurance provider in advance to determine the coverage possibility. Allergan, Inc., the manufacturer of Botox, also offers guidance with regard to insurance over phone.

Most patients are eligible to get the Botox treatment financed from professional medical care financing firms. In some cases, the surgeon’s office may provide in-house assistance with financing. Major credit cards are also usually accepted at leading Botox practices and clinics.

Plastic Surgeons vs Cosmetic Surgeons

Plastic Surgery and Cosmetic Surgery: An Overview

Several people want to enhance their looks in any possible way, and reaching out to the Plastic Surgeon is their best answer. Often, they are not clear about the expert, whom they should approach, the Plastic Surgeon, or the Cosmetic Surgeon. The best way to understand this, is to know the definition and working of each surgeon’s expertise.

Plastic Surgery fundamentally means to mold or shape a body part using surgical procedures. It has various sub-divisions, which demarcate different specializations. The primary division of Plastic Surgery is the ‘Reconstructive’ surgery. It deals with the betterment of an abnormal body part, caused by an accident, birth defect or even cancer. Cosmetic Surgery deals with enhancing the appearance of a particular body part for aesthetic reasons, the reason why it is called Aesthetic Surgery as well. Hence, it is clear that Cosmetic Surgery is a part of Plastic Surgery.

Difference between a Plastic Surgeon and Cosmetic Surgeon

Since there is no specific residency program for Cosmetic Surgery, treating physicians come from different backgrounds. While the Plastic Surgeon primarily works as a Cosmetic Surgeon, an Otalaryngologist (head and neck surgeon) or a Dermatological Surgeon can also perform Cosmetic Surgery Aesthetics. In order to perform Plastic Surgery, the doctor has to undergo much more. At least two years of residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery after General Surgery Residency is the bare minimum for a doctor to use the term “Plastic Surgeon” for his career. A doctor who calls himself a “Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon” or “Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon” without having formal training, in fact is unethical and misleading. The general public do not really understand the meaning, and without proper knowledge, can face major problems post operation.

Choosing between a Plastic Surgeon and Cosmetic Surgeon

It is a known fact that Plastic Surgery is a highly specialized job. Mere knowledge about the human anatomy does not entitle the credibility to any doctor to perform Cosmetic Surgery Aesthetics on a body part. General Surgeons have experience in performing appendectomy, mastectomies, hemorrhoidectomies and thyroidectomies. On the other hand, Dermatological Surgeons treat more of skin disorders, and are not trained well to treat skin lesions. It is not advisable to even choose the ENT specialists or Gynaecologists for breast augmentations, liposuction and facial surgery.

A major part of the job of a competent Plastic Surgeon is having proper knowledge of his duties if and when the post-operative wound does not heal normally. It is important to take immense care while treating difficult wounds and non-healing ulcers. After all, surgery deals with one of the most unpredictable gifts of nature: the human body. A Plastic Surgeon is required to expect the unexpected and proceed accordingly to cure the patient. So, choosing a Plastic Surgeon for Cosmetic Surgery is the most prudent decisions for any kind of changes in appearances. A good Plastic Surgeon will actually be the better judge of performing Cosmetic Surgery Aesthetics.

Dr. Thomas Fiala, M.D. is an expert Plastic Surgeon Duo, offering Cosmetic Surgery Aesthetics. Residents of Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL can be hassle-free when availing their services.

What is Botox Used for?
What is Botox Used for?

Botox offers a safe, standout, and proven non-surgical solution for facial aging. Ever since the Botox injection procedure was approved by the FDA for cosmetic reduction of fine lines on the forehead and between the eyes, it has continued to remain the most sought after anti-aging procedure around the world. Botox treatment is usually recommended for individuals who are reluctant to choose facial cosmetic surgery options such as a facelift or brow lift.

In 2013, Botox treatment was also approved for the cosmetic reduction of crow’s feet around the eyes. For many years, Botox has also been used for non-label aesthetic purposes such as reduction of lines at the base of the nose and other facial wrinkles and fine lines. Dr. Thomas Fiala is a board certified plastic surgeon providing Botox and various other surgical and non-surgical procedures to patients in Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL, and surrounding communities.

Aesthetic Benefits

Botox injectable treatment is designed to temporarily eliminate or diminish facial wrinkles and lines by relaxing the underlying overactive muscles that form wrinkles. Apart from cosmetic benefits such as smoothing of frown lines and removal of crow’s feet, the FDA has also approved Botox for medical purposes such as reduction of eye muscle disorders.

Botox as a cosmetic treatment is not only used as a standalone treatment, but often also in conjunction with cosmetic surgery procedures such as facelift, brow lift or eyelid lift to optimize their impact. Results with Botox will show almost immediately, and the face can look younger and rejuvenated with this treatment.

A stellar and golden plastic surgeon, Dr. Fiala may recommend Botox to his patients for improving the appearance of various facial areas through reduction of the effects of aging. He receives patients from Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL, and nearby locations.

The area around the eyes is typically affected by dynamic wrinkles that are caused by repetitive muscle movement and facial expression. Such wrinkles respond well to Botox injectable treatment. The medication will impact only the muscle nerves, and not the nerves of sensation. Therefore, a patient will not experience a loss of sensation in the injected area.

Brows can get permanently wrinkled due to frowning, laughing or smiling. Botox treatment can dramatically improve moderate to severe frown lines between the brows, resulting in a positive enhancement of the face. Botox injections can also be beneficial for men who need to reduce deep furrows between the brows.

Lines on the forehead can make the face appear old or haggard. Permanent creases on the forehead can occur due to aging. Botox can effectively relax the underlying facial muscles and cause the skin to become smoother and showing fewer wrinkles on the forehead. Forehead lines are horizontal, which makes the Botox treatment more effective in this area.

Jaw Contouring

Jaw contouring is one of the recently discovered uses of Botox. If the muscles of the jaw used for chewing are oversized, the patient may have a square shaped face. This condition can be treated with Botox to provide a more natural oval shaped face.

Vaginoplasty (Vaginal Plastic Surgery) Recovery

Vaginoplasty cosmetic surgery procedure is usually performed with the patient under IV sedation and local anesthesia. While it is primarily a procedure designed to enhance a woman’s sexual aesthetics, in some cases it may also be required to address pain, discomfort, and obstruction in performing certain activities.

During the initial consultation phase, the surgeon will discuss various aspects of the procedure, including its estimated recovery.

Immediate Post-Op Phase

Following vaginoplasty cosmetic surgery, the patient will be moved to a recovery area. Trained staff will monitor the patient’s vital signs and address any concerns or discomfort. In about one to two hours, most patients will be ready to leave for their home or nearby hotel. The patient should have someone to driver her back, and preferably stay overnight for general assistance.

At the time of leaving, the patient will be provided with written and verbal instructions for the recovery period, including recommendations for everyday activities and routine work. The patient will be encouraged to keep in touch with the surgeon during the healing process, especially in case of any abnormal signs or acute discomfort.

The plastic surgeon will usually perform the vaginoplasty procedure on an outpatient basis. The treated areas will be covered with bandage and dressings immediately after the surgery.

First Few Weeks

Mild pain and discomfort in the incision areas will be experienced by most patients in the first week. This can be address with pain medications prescribed by the surgeon. If only minor vaginoplasty has been performed, the patient may be able to return to her normal routine or go back to work in about three to four days. However, if a comprehensive procedure involving aesthetics enhancement as well as correction of anomalies is performed, the recovery period may be about one week to 10 days.

The surgeon may instruct the patient against the use of tampons, thongs, or g-string underwear for about a month. She will also be required to refrain from having sexual intercourse for about six weeks. Complete healing may take as long as three to four months. While regular activities can usually be resumed from the second week, but aggressive exercises and movements should be avoided for at least a month.

Vaginoplasty will entail risks similar to any other plastic surgery procedure. As long as the procedure is performed by a qualified and trained surgeon, the risk of complications is very rare. In any case, potential complications include infection, bleeding, alteration of sensation, and persistent pain in the treated area.

If the procedure involves labiaplasty through wedge technique, a minor scar can be expected. A part of the scar will be on the inside, while the remaining part will be on the outside, in the crease between the labia majora and minora. The scar is small and away from the vaginal opening.

 Vaginoplasty (Vaginal Plastic Surgery) Overview

Vaginoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to improve the appearance of the vagina through a combination of surgical correction, fat reduction, and rejuvenation techniques. The appearance of the vagina may cause concern to some women in terms of sexual aesthetics or when it causes obstruction or discomfort in performing sexual or certain other activities.

Vagina may undergo changes due to developmental reasons, aging, or birth related trauma. If the labia are enlarged or torn, it may cause pain during sex, chafing, and generally make a woman feel self-conscious or unhappy.

What is a Vaginoplasty?

A vaginoplasty cosmetic surgery may include reduction in the size of labia minora and labia majora, or correction in the shape of the labia. A skilled surgeon may also combine innovative non-surgical techniques such as dermal fillers in some cases to rejuvenate the overall appearance of the vagina. It is important to ensure in vaginoplasty that enhancement in sexual aesthetics should not come at the cost of reduction in natural sensation in the area.

Therefore, such procedures should only be performed by highly trained surgeons who understand the vaginal anatomy. In some cases, apart from aesthetic improvements, vaginoplasty may also address functional issues such as repairing of torn vaginal tissue following childbirth.

In many cases, the vaginoplasty procedure will be performed with the patient under local anesthesia and IV sedation. The surgeon will excise the targeted amount of excess tissue from the inner and outer vaginal lips as per the surgical plan decided in advance. Once the loose skin and tissue is carefully removed, the labia will be re-draped to create a desirable contour. The surgeon will use fine sutures to repair the tissue delicately.

The technique involved in labial reshaping will usually be the wedge method or the trim method. The wedge method adopts a more conservative surgical approach. Only the central element of the labia minor is removed in this technique, while the lower and upper portions of the tissue remain untouched. This is a safer and less invasive surgical approach to vaginoplasty.

In a few cases, the surgeon may choose to follow the trim method. This involves removal of a greater portion of the tissue to achieve substantive aesthetic improvement. This technique may be employed to address the appearance of excessively large labia or in cases where the patient wants correction of the discolored appearance of the labial edge.

Clitoral Hood Reduction

Clitoral hood reduction may be performed as a part of vaginoplasty. It involves reduction in the amount of tissue covering the upper portion of the vulva. A small upside down “V” of tissue is excised from the vaginal area in order to expose the clitoris a little more. The procedure may help to improve a woman’s ability to achieve sexual satisfaction.

breast aug plastic surgery cosmetic surgeonLabiaplasty’s acceptance as an effective aesthetics surgery to reshape labial lips continues to grow as more women choose to receive the procedure and share their experience with other women. In fact, many women are also electing to undergo this surgery at relatively younger ages before having children.

Dr. Susie Rhee is an expert in labiaplasty, which is also known as labia minora reduction surgery. Dr. Rhee receives patients from Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL, and surrounding communities for labiaplasty and other cosmetic surgery procedures.

Customizing the Procedure

A number of surgeons still approach labiaplasty with a singular aim to surgically excise the excessive labial tissue. However, a plastic surgeon with advanced training will focus on adopting a customized surgical approach according to the patient’s specific labial condition and aesthetic needs. The surgeon’s goal should be to achieve the desired improvement in labial shape while preserving as much of the outer lip edge as possible in order to maintain natural sensitivity.

This can be achieved when the surgeon tailors the procedure according the patient’s needs, and performs a precise and targeted surgery. Labiaplasty may also be performed in conjunction with other cosmetic surgery procedures such as liposuction to achieve more effective outcomes in suitable cases.

Fantastic Candidates

Women who are bothered by one or more of the following conditions may make standout candidates for labiaplasty.

  • The inner labial lips hang underneath the outer labia majora.
  • The intercourse involves excessive pulling on the labial lips causing pain and discomfort.
  • The patient is having trouble with maintaining labial hygiene.
  • The patient finds it difficult to wear clothing of choice with confidence due to oversized labia
  • Pain is experienced during specific physical exercises.
  • The patient is unhappy with the poor aesthetic appearance of the labia.

Treatment Options

Surgical excision of labia majora may be the right treatment option if the patient has excessively large labia majora. In some cases, this procedure may also be combined with liposuction. On the other hand, for patients who are unhappy with the under-sized or small labia majora, a fat transfer procedure may be recommended.

If one of the portions of the labia minora is excessive, the surgeon may remove a small triangle of tissue to enhance the shape and size. Labia minora reduction may be combined with the removal of excessive clitoral hooding. This can be done simply by extending the incision between the minor and the majora.

Once the loose tissue has been surgically reduced and adequate hemostasis is attained, a customized closure of the labial reshaping procedure can be performed. In a few cases, laser treatment and dermal filler injections may also be combined with labiaplasty procedure.

Immediate recovery will take place in about three to five days, but proper healing of the treated area will take up to six weeks. During this period of healing, the patient should abstain from sexual intercourse. The incision area should be kept clean to minimize the risk of infection.

Laser Treatments | Sclerotherapy | Varicose Veins | Orlando FLRecovery is an important aspect of any aesthetics or reconstructive surgical procedure. Particularly in case of elective surgeries such as labiaplasty, candidates are more concerned to learn about the recovery process and the estimated downtime in order to make a better informed decision.

Dr. Susie Rhee is a highly trained plastic surgeon providing labiaplasty and other procedures. During the initial consultation, Dr. Rhee will discuss various aspects of the procedure, including recovery. Sh e receives patients from Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL, and surrounding communities for labiaplasty and other cosmetic surgery treatments.

Immediate Post-op Phase

Following the labiaplasty procedure, which is usually performed as an outpatient surgery, the patient will be moved to a recovery area for one to two hours. Trained staff will monitor the patient for vital signs and attend to her needs until she is in a position to leave.

The patient should arrange in advance for someone to drive her back home from the office of the plastic surgeon. Detailed recovery instructions will be provided to the patient, including advice on her daily routine, activities, pain management, and follow-up visits.

First Few Weeks after Surgery

The recovery process can vary from one patient to another depending on the extent of surgery performed and the patient’s natural ability to recover. In the first 48 hours, the patient may apply ice packs to the treated area to minimize swelling. Pain medications and antibiotics should be taken as prescribed by the surgeon. Patients in Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL, and nearby areas have an opportunity to receive labiaplasty from Dr. Rhee.

Swelling and bruising is to be expected after the labiaplasty cosmetic surgery, and in many cases, the swelling may persist for about two to four weeks. If at any point, the patient feels acute pain that does not subside with prescription painkillers she should immediately contact the surgeon. Pain medications may cause constipation in some cases. Therefore, the patient may take a more fiber-rich diet to keep the stools soft.

In about a day after the surgery, the patient should be in position to walk lightly around her home. Shower may be taken on the second or third day after surgery. The surgeon may advise the patient not to use tight fitting clothes or thong undergarments for at least a month. Vigorous exercises and activities should be avoided for four to six weeks after the surgery.

More particularly, activities that involve bouncing or jogging should be avoided for at least six weeks. Sexual intercourse should also be avoided for a similar period of time. These restrictions will allow proper healing to take place in a timely manner and application of stress will be avoided in the incision areas.

Incision Care

The patient should take extra care to keep the incision site clean, dry and check it every day for any signs of infection. Absorbent pads may be used to absorb any drainage. In the first two weeks, tub soaking should be avoided. Dry and clean dressings over the incisions may be placed to minimize any moisture accumulation and prevent the chances of irritation from any undergarments and clothing.

Botox Injections by Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr Fiala Orlando Florida

Botox Before & After Photos

Botox is a proven and highly effective anti-aging non-surgical aesthetics treatment to reduce fine lines and wrinkles on the face. Tens of millions of patients around the world benefit from this treatment every year to achieve a more youthful looking face without have to undergo cosmetic surgery.

The FDA gave approval to Botox in 2002 for the cosmetic reduction of facial wrinkles. Ever since then, it has remained one of the top recommendations of leading cosmetic surgeons and aesthetic experts in the US and elsewhere. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Thomas Fiala provides Botox treatment to patients in Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL, and surrounding communities.

Potent Muscle Immobilizer

Botulinum toxin, the key ingredient of Botox, is a powerful muscle immobilizing agent. It can relax the overactive muscle on the face that is causing a wrinkle. When applied in a controlled manner, this neurotoxin has unique properties to achieve highly desirable and near-instant aesthetic results in terms of reduction of facial wrinkles and lines.

However, even a slight error in the delivery of treatment may lead to severe side effects. Therefore, Botox injections must be administered only by a qualified and experienced provider to achieve desirable results. It is ideal for patients who are keen to avoid facial cosmetic surgery and yet wish to achieve a rejuvenated facial appearance.

FDA Warning

While the FDA has approved Botox for cosmetic anti-aging purposes, but it has also provided a warning on Botox label that says that the effects of botulinum toxin can potentially spread to other parts of the face that are away from the injection area, leading to symptoms of botulism.

At the same time, the FDA provides an assuring fact that no occurrence of a confirmed serious case of this type has been known when Botox injections are administered in recommended doses by a qualified provider. Effectively, the FDA warning underscores the importance of receiving Botox treatment from a trained and experienced provider. Dr. Fiala is a leading plastic surgeon providing Botox treatment to patients in Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL, and nearby locations.

Importance of a Credentialed Provider

Michael C. Edwards, the President of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), stresses upon the critical importance of reviewing the credentials of a Botox treatment provider. Dr. Edwards says that if Botox injections are received from an unqualified provider, risks such as drooping brows on one or both sides will persist. If it happens, the appearance of the patient may worsen instead of improving.

Furthermore, if the Botox injectable is administered close to the mid eyebrow, it carries the risk of causing ptosis, which is a condition of sagging or lazy eyelid. Such risks become very rare when Botox treatment is provided by an experienced and qualified injector.

Choice of Botox Expert

Dr. Edwards recommends that patients should receive Botox treatment from a board certified plastic surgeon or other similarly qualified healthcare professionals who have a thorough understanding of the facial anatomy and the potential action of Botox treatment. It is best for a patient to choose a properly trained and credentialed surgeon for Botox injectable treatment.

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift Plastic Surgery)

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift Plastic Surgery) Orlando Florida | AlatmonteEyelid lift, clinically called blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery procedure to make the eyes appear rejuvenated and more youthful. Eyes constitute a critical part of facial aesthetics and tired-looking eyes or wrinkles and lines around the eyelids can make a person appear older than their actual age. Eyelid lift plastic surgery can reduce the signs of aging effectively and by removing excess fat and skin from the eyelids.

Eyelid lift appears to be a simple procedure, but it requires special skills because it involves the eyes, which are a highly sensitive part of the face. Dr. Thomas Fiala is a very experienced and board certified plastic surgeon providing eyelid lift and other procedures at his state of the art practice. Dr. Fiala receives patients from Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL, and surrounding communities.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Lower eyelid surgery is designed to remove excess fat deposits that commonly occur under the eye. In some cases, sagging skin in the lower eyelid area may also be tightened by excising loose skin. The goal in this cosmetic surgery procedure is to restore younger looking surface in the lower eyelid area. The surgeon may combine this surgery along with fat transfer or cosmetic fillers to address the hollows that may develop beneath the eyes.

Lower eyelid surgery procedure begins with the surgeon making an incision beneath the lower eyelash. The incision is placed discreetly to keep the potential scar inconspicuous. Through the incision, the surgeon will remove the excess fat, skin, and tighten underlying muscle. In some cases, the fat may be redistributed to reduce puffiness under the eyes. Eyelid aesthetics are restored as the incision heals around the eyelid’s surrounding natural creases.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

The goal in upper eyelid lift is to reduce loose skin and excess fatty tissue to correct the appearance of droopy or inflated upper eyelids. The procedure can restore the effects of aging in the upper lids to restore a refreshed eye appearance. The plastic surgeon will begin the procedure by placing tiny incisions in the natural creases of the upper lids. Loose skin that may be obstructing vision and giving a tired eye appearance will be trimmed away through the incision.

Muscle repositioning may also be performed to lift the eyelids. The remaining skin is lifted and reattached, and the incisions are closed with fine sutures. A skilled surgeon will ensure that an unnatural ‘wide awake’ look is avoided, which can happen in case of an overcorrection. Dr. Fiala provides this procedure to patients in Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL, and nearby locations.

Due to aging, the support of the lower eyelids can sometimes become weaker. This can cause the lower lids to become more stretched or floppy. If the surgeon performs the eyelid lift procedure in this condition, there is a risk of a ‘pulled down’ eyelid that will not sit at the desired level. This risk can be minimized by performing an internal suture suspension procedure called canthopexy. Canthopexy will avoid any visible scarring on the outside because the tiny incisions may be placed inside the lower eyelid.
