Preparing for Eyelid Lift Surgery
Posted on December 2, 2017An eyelid lift cosmetic surgery procedure should be preceded by a careful preparation process for safe and predictable results. The patient should have the commitment to follow the surgeon’s instructions for advance preparation. They should closely engage with the surgeon during the initial consultation to understand the preparatory aspects.
A well-prepared patient will typically have better confidence levels about the procedure and will be able to make the right decisions.
Such patients also have a higher chance to achieve results in line with their best expectations. Fiala Aesthetics Plastic Surgery, led by sterling, committed, and board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Thomas Fiala, provides eyelid lift surgery to patients in Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL, and surrounding communities in this part of the amazing state of Florida.
Weeks before the Surgery
The patient should ideally follow a balanced diet and a good fitness regimen for a few weeks ahead of the surgery in order to improve resilience. The diet can include a higher intake of lean proteins, which will support good healing.
Patients having a habit of smoking will be required to avoid it completely for at least two weeks before the procedure. Alcohol consumption should also be minimized for a few days prior to the eyelid surgery.
If the patient has been taking NSAIDs, blood thinners such as aspirin or oral supplements of vitamin E, these will have to be stopped them a few days before the eyelid lift cosmetic surgery.
Herbal supplements should also be avoided during the preparation phase to reduce the risk of bleeding. The surgeon may also adjust the schedule of certain prescription drugs in consultation with the physician. Safe alternatives to some of the drugs may be recommended.
Advance Arrangements
The patient can have a more comfortable recovery if they take a few simple preparatory steps in advance. The patient should stock up the following items at home:
- Pain medications and prescription antibiotics
- Ice cubes
- Clean washcloths
- Clean bowl for cold water
- Plastic bags to make ice packs
- Sterile gauze pads
- Bottle of artificial tears
- Extra pillows to keep the head elevated
The patient should arrange for someone responsible to drive them back home after the surgery. Someone should ideally stay for the first one or two days with the patient for assistance following eyelid surgery. In addition, the patient may hire a professional nurse assist with aftercare if they can afford it and if they really think they need to.
On the night before the surgery, the patient should sleep early and stay well-rested. This is not the time to take a trip to Vegas and be returning the night before a surgery of this magnitude. This is not the time to drink and party really hard as well or hard at all.
The surgeon may prescribe a calming medication to address any pre-surgery anxiety on the night preceding the surgery. Fiala Aesthetics Plastic Surgery receives patients from Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL, and other cities and suburbs in this part of the country for eyelid lift.
The Day of Surgery
The following tips may help on the day of the surgery:
- Wash hair and eyebrows thoroughly
- Avoid wearing any makeup or cosmetics
- Do not wear jewelry, contact lenses or false eyelashes
- Wear comfortable and loose fitting clothes with front buttons
Any prescription medications on the morning of the surgery should be taken after discussing with the surgeon.
