Dermal Fillers Recovery Time
Posted on December 15, 2021Dermal Fillers
A wide range of aesthetic anti-aging med spa procedures are available today. Among these, dermal filler injections rank as the second most popular procedure in the US after Botox. At the time of initial consultation, the treatment provider will explain the benefits and limitations of different types of filler treatments, including the recovery aspect of filler procedures.
Although most cosmetic filler injections do not involve a significant recovery process, but the patient should know about all aspects of this cosmetic treatment, including its potential risks and expected results so that they can make an informed choice.
Fiala Aesthetics medical spa, led by board certified and prolific plastic surgeon Dr. Thomas Fiala, provides facial filler injections to patients in Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL and surrounding locations and other locations across the horizon.
Immediate Post-Treatment Phase
The patient can notice the initial cosmetic effect of dermal filler injections almost immediately after the treatment, despite the minor bruising and swelling appearing in the injection areas. As the filler gel gets deposited in the deeper tissue layers, it acts quickly to plump the skin in a subtle way and mitigate the effect of facial creases and wrinkles.
The extent of facial swelling can differ between two patients, depending on the type of med spa filler injection received, and the number of injections and sites involved. For most patients, redness, swelling, and bruising will disappear in less than a week. The treatment provider may advise the patient to use cold compresses or ice packs in the first two days to reduce the swelling.
Precautions
After the injection procedure, the patient should avoid lying down for about four hours. Within this much time, the soft tissue filler gel to settle in the affected sites, and will not spread to unintended areas. The injection provider will also instruct the patient to refrain from rubbing or massaging the injection sites for about 24 hours.
The patient will be allowed to wear makeup a day after the injections to camouflage the swelling. However, specific cosmetics that contain alcohol will have to be avoided for a few days. If the patient has a habit of smoking, they will be asked to refrain from it for a few days before and after the injectable procedure. This will help ensure faster and better healing.
The provider may also advise the patient to avoid using blood thinners such as aspirin as well as NSAIDs for a few days. Sun exposure must be avoided before and after the injections for a few weeks. The patient should ideally use a sunscreen with SPF 30 or above.
Retreatment and Results
Follow up treatments to fill any creases or wrinkles in the face that may not have been successfully treated in the first injection treatment may be required in some cases.
But mostly the results of a single office treatment of dermal fillers will last for about six months to a year, depending on the type of filler used. Fiala Aesthetics medical spa receives patients from Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL, and nearby areas for dermal fillers.
