Neck Liposuction

Neck liposuction is useful for removing fatty deposits from chin and around the neck among other specific areas. Generally, this procedure is performed with a micro-cannula using tumescent technique. Your surgeon will provide you with detailed pre-operative instructions. You should not eat or drink anything for a minimum period of six hours before surgery if you are undergoing general anesthesia. This will ensure that you don’t feel nauseous while being sedated.

Preparation for liposuction plastic surgery will differ in each case. Your surgeon will most likely make marks on your skin for identifying the treatment areas. The surgeon’s team will take a “before” photograph for comparing the outcome of the neck liposuction procedure. They will provide you with a dressing gown for changing into before the surgery.

Board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Eric Yavrouian provides neck liposuction to patients in Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, Greater Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, CA, and surrounding communities.

Steps Involved in the Procedure

The basic concept of neck liposuction cosmetic surgery is simple. However, the process is complex as with any other type of surgery. Each procedure can differ slightly depending on the surgical technique employed. Here is the basic outline followed by most procedures:

  1. Anesthesia

Your surgeon may perform the procedure using general or local anesthesia. Both processes involve the injection of a numbing solution. In local anesthesia, that targeted body area will be numbed. You will remain conscious during the whole liposuction surgery.

General anesthesia is administered as a needle injection or gas. You will be placed under deep sleep for the duration of the operation. The treated body area will remain numb once you awaken, which means you will feel little to no pain.

  1. Creating Incisions

Once anesthesia and other fluids are injected, your surgeon will create tiny incisions in the neck and chin area where fat deposits need to be removed. These incisions are usually tiny in size. They range from a quarter to a maximum of third of an inch.

  1. Removing Fat

A thin vacuum tube or a cannula will be inserted through the incision into the deeper fat layers. The surgeon will move the cannula around to break the fat cells. They will use the attached vacuum pump or syringe for suctioning out the fat.

You will be provided with intravenous replacement of fluids during and after the procedure since a significant amount of bodily fluids and blood is removed along with the fat. This step depends on the type of liposuction you select.

  1. Closing Incisions

Incisions can either be closed or left open depending on the preference of your surgeon. In case the incisions are being closed, your surgeon will complete the procedure with a minimum number of stitches. Many doctors prefer leaving the incisions open. This reduces the amount of swelling and bruising that may take place after the neck liposuction procedure. This step depends on you and the surgeon’s preferences.
