Breast Implants Exchange Before and After Photos

Breast implants exchange procedure may be required at some stage for a woman who has received breast augmentation surgery. An experienced plastic surgeon will inform the patient about this possibility at the time of initial consultation for the primary procedure itself to ensure that she makes an informed choice.

When the need for a breast implant exchange arises, the surgeon will show before and after photographs to let the patient know how the breasts may appear after the procedure. Dr. Thomas Fiala is a board certified plastic surgeon providing procedures such as breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, and breast implant replacement.

What are Implant Exchange Before and After Images?

Breast implants exchange before and after images refer to a set of pictures pertaining to a previous patient who has received the same procedure successfully. The set includes images taken prior to the procedure and after the procedure at a stage when the full results have appeared. Just as in the case of breast lift, breast reduction or primary breast augmentation procedures, the surgeon will take these images with the consent of the patient, and show them to new patients in a discreet way.

The goal of the surgeon is to educate new patients about various aspects of the surgery with the help of these pictures. Breast implant exchange before and after photos serve as a visual aid to show the potential effectiveness of the procedure and help the new patient make an informed decision.

Benefits

When a patient is considering a breast implant exchange procedure, she may only have a vague idea of how far it can improve her aesthetic appearance. The procedure will usually require a different type or size of implants to meet the new aesthetic goals of the patient. In some cases, the implant exchange may be necessary due to capsular contracture in only one breast. Change in breast profile and shape, if any, will also impact the overall new appearance of the breasts.

Sometimes breast implant exchange may be combined with breast lift surgery. It can be confusing for a patient to make the right choices among various options available. This is where the surgeon can make use of breast implant exchange before and after photos to explain various options and help the patient make the right choice.

Breast Implants Exchange Before and After Photos

Breast enhancement before and after images is nothing more than a group of images of past patients that have undergone the procedure. The images are usually of patients that had successful results. The photos are taken before, during and after the procedure. There would be a set of pictures once post-operative bruising and inflammation have subsided. This is when the final results of the procedure become visible.

The surgeon will show you these images only after the express consent of the patients in the images. In addition, the photos would be shown to you in a discreet and judicious manner. The outstanding thing about Dr. Fiala’s website is that these photos can be seen by anyone anywhere – as long as they have internet access.

Breast Implants Exchange

Breast augmentation ranks among the more popular cosmetic surgery procedures in the US today. However, the results with breast augmentation are not permanent, and most women may be required to replace or exchange the breast implants at least once in their lifetime. Patients should be made fully aware of this possibility at the time of the primary procedure so that they can make an informed decision.

Breast implant exchange surgery should ideally be performed by an experienced breast surgeon only because it can be more complicated compared to the primary procedure. Dr. Thomas Fiala is an experienced plastic surgeon providing procedures such as breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction.

Why Breast Implant Exchange may be needed?

Several factors may necessitate the need for implant exchange at some stage after the primary breast augmentation surgery. Capsular contracture is a common occurrence, which may happen at some point of time in the future, and lead to implant damage, or loss of implant shape, position or alignment. In some cases, the breast implants may be functioning fine, but the patient may choose to exchange the implants with a new quality or new size or shape.

Some women may be using traditional saline implants, and may like to make switchover to the latest highly cohesive silicone implant qualities for improved results. If the plastic surgeon determines that the patient is a suitable candidate, they may recommend an implant exchange surgery.

What is Capsular Contracture?

The formation of a “capsule” of scar tissue around any kind of implant (medical or cosmetic) is a normal part of the healing process. The body automatically reacts to any foreign object it detects within it and attempts to isolate said object by creating a barrier of scar tissue around it. In the case of breast implants, this is usually a good thing – the capsule helps to keep the breast implants in place, preventing slippage. In some patients, however, this capsule of scar tissue becomes unusually hard and starts to contract around the implant. This can lead to both aesthetic problems and, in extreme cases, pain in the breasts. Research shows that about one in six breast augmentation patients experience some degree of capsular contracture, though not all cases present with obvious symptoms.

Who should Avoid Implant Exchange?

Voluntary breast implant exchange procedure for aesthetic reasons may not be recommended in the following cases:

  • The candidate has been diagnosed with a cancerous or pre-cancerous growth in the breast area.
  • A current infection is present in some part of the body.
  • The candidate is pregnant or nursing a newborn.
  • The candidate suffers from a health condition that may pose the risk of bleeding or delayed healing during or following surgery.
  • The candidate’s blood flow is poor due to a previous procedure.

Surgery

The breast surgeon will aim to use the existing scars to make the new incision. The old implants will be removed and replaced with new ones through the incision. If there has been an implant rupture or leakage, the implant cavity will be cleared and disinfected of any rupture material or debris. The existing breast cavity will be used to place the new implants. Once the new implants are adjusted into the desired position, the surgeon will close the incision with sutures or skin adhesive.

Recovery

Patients will experience mild pain and discomfort for the first week. Bruising and swelling are common, but will subside on their own gradually. If the previous implant was placed in the front of the muscle, the recovery will involve a period of transition as the muscle will gradually accommodate the new implant. Patients can usually go back to work within two weeks after the procedure.

Announcement: Free HRUS Scan for Silicone Breast Implant Ruptures

Torso of Woman Covering Left BreastSilicone breast implants do not empty when they rupture. Instead, they leak slowly, gradually changing shape and size, and ultimately impacting symmetry and form. The FDA recommends frequent MRI scanning –even as often as yearly – to ensure continued implant integrity.

MRI is the “gold standard” for imaging silicone breast implants to determine if they have ruptured. This type of imaging is, however, expensive and not reliably covered by insurance.

HRUS, high-resolution ultrasound, uses soundwaves to create detailed soft-tissue images without exposing the patient to radiation. Typically used for fetal imaging, HRUS has shown excellent accuracy at detecting silicone implant rupture.

Dr. Fiala is offering free HRUS scans for women with silicone breast implants placed between 2000 and 2015. This offer is available only for the first 150 women to take advantage. Call today to secure your spot.

Your scan and subsequent visit with our board-certified plastic surgeon will be free of both cost and obligation. If you could benefit from breast implant revision, we will provide you with information about your options during this free consultation.
