Lose Calf & Ankle Fat with Liposuction

Liposuction in the lower extremities, in the last two decades, has become increasingly popular as a cosmetic surgery procedure. The procedure used to be linked with unsatisfactory results and complications. However, advances made in surgical techniques have addressed these issues.
There is no area tougher than the calves and ankles when it comes to removing stubborn fatty deposits. Fat accumulation in these two areas is because of genetic predisposition. Cankles or thick calves can be eliminated now with liposuction performed by an experienced cosmetic surgeon.
Liposuction Overview
Generally, ankle and calf liposuction are not performed as standalone procedures. Rather, your surgeon will need to re-contour the entire lower leg for appealing results. The surgeon will also need to ensure that lower leg proportions are maintained. This is one of the reasons why calf and ankle liposuction is performed as a single procedure. Knee and thigh liposuction may also be performed by the surgeon to sculpt the entire leg.
Liposuction Procedure
A special cannula is used for performing calf and ankle liposuction. This is a thin steel tube that is delicately inserted into the fat layer of the ankles and calf though small incisions. The surgeon will remain perfectly parallel to the skin while cautiously manipulating the cannula within the fat layer. This will work towards dislodging the fat cells that will subsequently be suctioned out of the body using the cannula.
Calf liposuction is performed using minimally invasive tumescent liposuction plastic surgery. This means the procedure can be performed using local anesthesia. The patient stays awake during the procedure which involves quicker healing and better results in comparison with invasive types of techniques.
Incision placement is an important factor in calf liposuction plastic surgery. The surgeon will create an incision right below the knee towards the top portion of the calf. The entire calf area will be treated through these incisions.
Artistic skills will be used by the surgeon to mold the calf into a desirable and sculpted shape. A similar approach will be used for performing liposuction on the ankles. Incisions will be placed by the surgeon on either side of the ankle to access unwanted fatty deposits. Because the ankle is a small area, you should choose an experienced surgeon that doesn’t accidentally poke the skin resulting in dimpling.
Recovery and Results
Ankle and calf liposuction can reduce excess fatty tissue effectively from the area. Patients are generally left with highly sculpted lower leg that appears more appealing and muscular. Inflammation in lower leg liposuction may remain for much longer as compared to liposuction in the thighs and trunk.
You would be asked to wear a compression hose following the procedure for reducing and managing the inflammation. It can be frustrating to deal with prolonged inflammation. However, most patients consider it worth the trouble.
