Laser Photorejuvenation in Orlando, Florida
Men and women today realize that when they look good, they feel better about themselves. Self-confidence enhances our interaction with others and can help us to be more successful in our personal and professional lives.
A laser is a single-wavelength source of high-energy coherent light. The high-energy beam of light from a laser can selectively transfer its energy into tissue to treat the skin. They work in cosmetic applications through a process called selective photothermolysis. The wavelength of the light beam, and hence the type of laser used, is chosen so the beam is preferentially absorbed by the target tissue in the skin. This results in selective targeting of that tissue, without collateral injury to the surrounding normal tissues.
The use of lasers in medicine is complex and ever-growing. Fiala Aesthetics Medical Spa has a professional staff that is expertly trained and understands how and when to use one. For redness and spider veins, often we turn to the laser. The Cutera 1064 Nd:YAG laser is very helpful for eliminating broken facial veins, and can be used in the “Laser Genesis” mode for reducing diffuse redness, as often occurs in rosacea.
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses a strong burst of light energy to stimulate the new growth of collagen without removing your skin tissue like a chemical peel or laser usually does. While IPL therapy is not as intense as laser treatment, it can nevertheless have incredibly beneficial effects on the skin with low risk and no downtime.
IPL™ Photorejuvenation can treat a wide variety of skin problems including:
- Vascular redness
- Pigmented brown spots
- Sun damage
- Age spots
- Skin texture
- Photoaging / sun damage
- Uneven skin tone
- Dull complexion
- Facial Telangiectasia
- Fine lines
- Vascular redness
- Irregular red and brown skin tones
The ideal candidates for Photorejuvenation are those who are looking to improve their appearance without the discomfort, risk, and recovery issues of more invasive surgical techniques. Potential patients should be in good health and have realistic expectations.
Depending on the number of conditions you are treating and the severity of the individual problem, a series of four to six treatment sessions may be recommended. You can return to work the same day and resume all of your regular activities and by dividing the full program into several treatments, the procedure provides gradual improvement with very low risk.

Laser Genesis skin therapy is a remarkable way to treat the signs of premature aging and sun damage. The Laser Genesis procedure has been scientifically proven to produce new collagen, the fibrils that compose a majority of your skin. This non-invasive laser passes through the top layer of skin painlessly and safely, and by gently heating the dermis, Laser Genesis stimulates collagen re-growth and reduces redness. The results are an evener skin tone, smaller pore size, a smoother skin texture, and a reduction in fine lines.
Laser Genesis also targets the microvasculature (tiny vessels) beneath your skin surface to improve problems of diffuse redness and ruddy complexions, and is a helpful treatment for Poikiloderma of Civatte and Rosacea.
Virtually any part of your body can be safely treated with Laser Genesis but the face, chest, and neck are the most popular areas chosen for treatment. Laser Genesis is very adept at diminishing the appearance of scars on all parts of the body, including acne and surgical scarring.
Results from Laser Genesis are often subtle. You may require five treatments, about four weeks apart, in order to achieve significant skin improvement. Every patient’s condition and needs vary. Depending upon your goals and degree of improvement desired, follow-up maintenance treatments will likely be needed because unfortunately, the aging process cannot be prevented and skin will continue to receive exposure to the environment. Maintenance treatments every three to six months will ensure continued skin improvement and delay collagen breakdown.
If you are interested in a way to rejuvenate the overall appearance of your skin but are concerned about the downtime involved with an invasive procedure, Laser Genesis may be the option you have been looking for. Laser Genesis can be performed during your lunchtime and most patients are pleased to return to their normal activities immediately after their treatment. Laser Genesis is ideal for patients of any age who want to restore and maintain a healthy, youthful glow.

Fractionated CO2 Laser
While standard CO2 laser resurfacing works very effectively to reduce wrinkles, pigmentation issues, and photo-aging, not everyone has the “downtime” required for this intensive treatment. Fractional CO2 resurfacing gives our patients much of the benefit of traditional resurfacing, but with a much quicker and easier recovery.
The fractional laser puts down a pattern of small laser dots – much like a “polka-dot” design. The untreated areas of skin in-between the laser dots act as a reservoir for skin healing, allowing rapid recovery from the treatment. However, some downtime will still be required. For the lighter fractional CO2 treatments, you will need 3-5 days of downtime. For the deeper treatments, plan on 7-10 days of healing before you can resume your normal routine.
Fractional resurfacing can be used in all areas of your skin, including your face, neck, and hands. It is beneficial for:
- Skin Rejuvenation
- Fine Lines
- Brown Spots
- Solar Lentigines
- Pore Size
- Skin Coarseness
- Acne Scarring
- Sun Damage
- Surgical Traumatic Scars
- Precancerous Growths (Actinic Keratoses)
- Sebaceous Hyperplasia
Since fractional CO2 laser treatments can be customized, some treatments are deeper, with more healing and downtime; others are shallower, with less healing time. The deeper the treatment, the better the results tend to be. Alternatively, some patients prefer to have two treatments that are more moderate, so they can avoid extra downtime. You will see some immediate results but you will not see the full results for 3-6 months. After your skin heals, there will be a period of 4 to 6 weeks when your skin might be slightly more pink in color.
Final results vary from person to person depending on how well you protect your skin after your treatment from the sun and other factors that cause aging such as your general health, smoking, and changes in weight. Most people feel the results last for about 5 years. Taking steps to protect and maintain your rejuvenated skin can help prolong results and this should include using a sunscreen every day with an SPF of at least 30. We will discuss this in greater detail during your time in our care.

Laser Scar Therapy
It is true that a scar will never completely disappear but fortunately, there are many methods available today that can help improve a scar’s appearance. Fiala Aesthetics offers laser scar treatments as an excellent option for cosmetically improving the appearance of scars, especially those that are red, purple or brown in their coloration.
Surgeons typically group scars into several categories, which helps with deciding the best treatment:
- Widespread Scars – Widespread scars appear when the fine lines of surgical scars slowly become stretched out and widened. These scars have a normal amount of collagen in them (unlike keloids and hypertrophic scars) and they usually have widened out from mechanical tension (pull) across the incision. They are typically flat, pale, soft scars, such as those often seen after knee or shoulder surgery. There is no elevation, thickening, or nodularity in mature widespread scars and this distinguishes them from hypertrophic scars
- Atrophic Scars – Atrophic scars cause a depression or valley in your skin beneath the overlying skin. They are normally small, flat, and often circular in shape with an indented or inverted center. Atrophic acne scars are a common example of this type of scar.
- Hypertrophic Scars – Hypertrophic scars may often thick, raised, and firm. They are formed as the result of overzealous collagen synthesis coupled with limited collagen breakdown during the remodeling phase of wound healing. Hypertrophic scars remain within the confines of the original injury. Hypertrophic scars typically form in body areas that exhibit slow wound healing or in pressure-dependent or movement-dependent areas. Unlike keloid scars, hypertrophic scars may partially regress over time, becoming more flat and pale. They usually show up during the first few months after a surgical incision and they occur in equal frequency in both men and women.
- Keloid Scar – A keloid scar is a scar that continues to enlarge and spreads beyond the borders of the initial wound. They are common on the face, earlobes, and the chest. More common in women than men, keloids are raised, reddish-purple, nodular scars, which are very firm to the touch. Although they can be seen in all skin types, keloids appear most frequently in patients with darker skin tones.
At Fiala Aesthetics Medical Spa, after carefully evaluating the individual characteristics of your scar, a specific treatment will be chosen to improve its appearance. There are several different types of laser scar removal treatments available, each optimally suited for your specific type of scar. Options include:
- Fractional Laser Resurfacing
- Laser Genesis
- Vascular Laser Treatment
Factors that will affect the type of treatment you will require include:
- The size (width, length & thickness) of the scar
- The location of the scar
- The character of the scar (is it raised or depressed)
- Cause of the scar
- Skin color
- Family history of abnormal scarring or wound healing
During your free consultation at our Altamonte Springs office, we will carefully evaluate your scars and recommend the treatment option most suitable for your needs.
