Venus Viva & ThermiSmooth
Both systems work by delivering heat to the deeper layers of the skin, without causing blistering or superficial skin damage. This causes a stimulation of collagen production, mild contraction of the skin and a firming effect.
The Venus Viva system is commonly used on the face and neck. It combines microneedling with RF energy, and is particularly useful for acne scarring, wrinkles, and large pores as well as facial aging. It can obtain many of the improvements associated with laser resurfacing, with a reduced downtime – a kindler, gentler version of resurfacing!
ThermiSmooth is typically used on the face and neck, while the more powerful ThermiSmooth 250 is used for improving cellulite and skin laxity on the body. Many women swear by it to treat crepey skin on the arms.

What is ThermiSmooth?
ThermiSmooth is an external radio-frequency skin treatment which is used to tighten and smooth facial areas. Mild to moderate facial wrinkling, texture issues and early laxity can be improved, over a course of 3-4 treatments.
What is a ThermiSmooth treatment like?
After the skin is cleansed, gel is applied to the area, and the ThermiSmooth wand is placed on the skin. The patients feel a mild warming sensation – not hot or painful – as the energy is applied. Treatments take about 20-30 minutes, depending on the area being treated, and are typically repeated every 4 weeks. No anesthesia or sedation is required. Recovery is quick, with no significant downtime, no bruising and or swelling.
What areas can be treated with ThermiSmooth?
ThermiSmooth is typically used on the face:
- lower eyelids
- around the upper and lower lips
We also have the larger, more powerful ThermiSmooth 250 unit for body treatments.
How does ThermiSmooth work?
ThermiSmooth uses radio-frequency energy to heat the skin and induce new collagen production. It has a built-in temperature probe that is used to precisely regulate the amount of energy delivered, to ensure comfort and to protect the skin from getting too hot. This improves both safety and effectiveness.
What’s the difference between ThermiTight and ThermiSmooth?
While both treatments use the ThermiRF energy source, the ThermiTight is performed by Dr. Fiala in the operating room, and uses a probe that goes underneath the skin with a surgical approach. The ThermiSmooth is a skin surface treatment performed by our aestheticians, with a wand that moves over the top of the skin.
How does the Venus Viva work?
Venus Viva™ uses tiny sterile pins that safely deliver heat (Radio Frequency energy) through the skin’s surface. This creates tiny micro-wounds, which stimulates the body’s healing processes, improving the texture and look of the skin. The treatment and recovery is much more comfortable than traditional CO2 lasers, while still producing obvious improvements.
Can Venus Viva be used on all skin types and colors?
Yes! It is safe for all skin types and colors, unlike traditional CO2 resurfacing.
